You say Goodbye...I say Hello!

How catchy is that stupid Telstra ad song?

So the theme for today's post is inspired by this mornings' trip to the airport! After waiting for over 30 minutes at the arrivals hall for a family friend, I noticed the different emotions that are displayed. Although i'm generally against PDA's (also known as Public Displays of Affection), for some reason it is acceptable at the airport. Isn't that funny?

So I noticed there were several types of hello's that you can find at the airport:

1. The awkward "I should show some sort of affection because I am related to you" hello - this tends to be for the aunts, uncles or children meeting their long lost relatives (that they've heard about from some foreign land) for the first time.

2. The "Prodigal Son/Daughter" greeting - obviously parents or grandparents who feel guilty because they have sent their children on their way (wishing them 'good riddance') and actually have missed them more than they expected.

3. The 'boyfriend/girlfriend' "Big gesture to show them I care" salutation - Partners who have not seen eachother for a long time feel that they have to openly express that they still love eachother. Apparently this takes the form of huge bunches of flowers, balloons, or even (like this morning) jumping the railing to give their partners a huge smooch. I think these people are definately over-compensating for something...or am I being too cynical?

4. The "I don't want to draw attention to myself" hello - these people tend to gracefully take control of their loved ones' trolley, walk past the huge masses of people, and once outside with less prying eyes they embrace their families and friends...(and no i did not stalk anyone!)

I guess I would've been the type for a number "1" hello, however, after waiting for half an hour...I ended up being in the toilet (5 mins) when the person I was waiting for ended up clearing customs. I guess I missed the exciting part of picking someone up at the airport!!
